Professional Curiosity

What is ‘professional curiosity’ in safeguarding?

Professional curiosity is the need to actively seek a deeper understanding of a situation, rather than accepting things at face value, to identify potential risks and ensure an adult at potential risk is safe.  It is a combination of looking, listening, asking direct questions, checking out and reflecting on all the information received.  It is a recurring theme in safeguarding reviews and highlights the need to fully understand a family’s situation.
